A customer at Casarama brought in a box of the most interesting woven wool ties. The story behind them is that the brother of the road salesman for the company was the owner of the estate and when they were cleaning it out they discovered the box of ties, left over from the 1940’s when his brother was on the road selling. The ties were manufactured by B.J.Ernst in San Francisco. Needless to say I bought the whole lot. I had them in Casarama for a while and sold a few, but the longer I looked at them and read about new woven wool ties I pulled them from the display case and decided to wear a few. I am still not sure if I want to give them up.
The following is the collection:
I let a few get away for $20 each. Should I keep them or sell them?…

It depends what your style is. I think if you only wear them once in a while, keep the few you like best and share the love! If you could wear them several days a week.. say forget it and keep all the beautiful ties to yourself!!

Hello —
I found your page while searching for more info about BJ Ernst. That’s a very nice collection you’ve lucked into!
If you’re curious, I wrote something many years ago on a LiveJournal group about Ernst and his ties, and some of them in my own collection: http://refinement.livejournal.com/114576.html?thread=1477520
If you ever want to deaccession any of yours or discuss swapping duplicates, please contact me.
Cheers —

Very nice collection! I am interested in a couple if you would be willing to part with them, the red, white and blue striped, and the orange and yellow stripe in the same pix. The next pix down, middle tie with black, gray and white.

I once worked at the Ernst factory on Brannan St. in San Francisco in 1966/1967. I was so grateful when they hired me, even though I didn’t make much money. I had just got out of federal prison for refusing to report for military service. They didn’t care! Bought lunch at nearby North Park at a small grocery store.

My father was a sales rep for Ernst in the 60’s. We have a large collection of the ties, including a few packaged in tins. I’ve been searching the internet for information about the other items Ernst made. I have several tunics, tote bags and hats. There is no mention of them anywhere. Have any of you heard about them? Please let me know. Items are up for sale.

I haven’t even seen any other products produced by Ernst. I think they were strictly a neckware producer. i might be wrong about that, but have never personally heard of anything else.

They were more than a neckware producer. This is a link to a dropbox folder with photos of a tunic and tote bag. I have more tunics, and hats too.
