Search For The Perfect Sweatshirt

Image

A few months back I was lamenting over the lack of selection in the Perfect Sweatshirt category. It seems I am not the only one with the obsession. The folks over at Selectism have done some research for me and come up with some of the same I originally found in addition to some new. They all have great vintage style and superior fabric construction. If they didn’t have such a high price tag I just might get several. Quality ain’t cheap. Also, I continue to get frustrated that all the best fashion options, even from American companies, are only available in the UK and Japan. WHAT’S GOING ON HERE AMERICA?!

In addition to Selectisms recommendations, here are a few more I like… just in case you want to buy me something for Christmas.

A Time Out

I have been slacking on the Honda CB350 Cafe Racer Project because, as often happens, I got sidetracked and obsessed (Imagine That!) about another project. The Missus and I collect vintage metal medical cabinets, and I happened to pick up a nice one for our front entrance. The problem is that I like them in their raw metal state, which means I had to get out the paint stripper and some elbow grease and get to stripping. This particular cabinet is a very heavy welded construction piece and you never know what you are going to find under the paint. It is a good thing I don’t mind flaws on these old bastards because there are always rust feathers and weld and grind marks. I happen to think they make the cabinets look even more industrial and beautiful. So here it is after the strip:

Antique Ranch Auction

This past weekend I attended a 3 day auction at a historical ranch in Prineville, Oregon. While there were plenty of amazing items to buy, the prices were so high I wasn’t able to walk away with much. I found a few gems that I could afford, but mostly enjoyed the experience. While everyone else was paying higher-than-retail prices I was able to bust out my camera and take photos of some great rusty relics. Enjoy…

Antique Trouble Lights

I have been obsessed with antique trouble lights for some time. This weekend I attended an auction and came away with quite a box of trouble light heaven. It was a score.

Vintage Favor Motorcycles Poster

This is a 1937 Favor Cycles poster from France I just acquired from a dealer in France. It measures 15″ x 23.5″ and has metal borders on the top and bottom with a metal loop for hanging. I have seen this poster in several sizes, including a large 6′ x 4′ version. It was designed by Bellenger, who designed many French posters of that period.

1971 Honda Cb350 Cafe Racer – Episode 5: Rolling Chassy

Made some serious visual progress today. Repacked the front brakes, polished up the front and back rims, and reassembled a rolling chassy. So far the only major changes I have made are ditching the stock fork covers for replacement rubber fork boots, and changing out the handlebars for cafe bars. Now the small details begin, including the dreaded electrical.

Vintage Belgian Motorcycle Race Poster

A nice 1969 Belgian Motorcycle Race poster I just bought from a dealer in France. Great flat track image advertising mixed-class races, including side-cars, called Rumesm Mettet.

1971 Honda CB350 Cafe Racer – Inspiration

I came across this 1971 Honda CB500 Cafe Racer today while looking for inspiration on the web. I am not sure who built this bike but it is sweet. Great example for my CB350 build.

Just got word from the guys over at Steel Bent Customs that this was their build. They have tons of great builds over on their site so check ’em out at Steelbentcustoms.com

1971 Honda CB350 Cafe Racer Project – Episode 4

Last night I wrestled the engine into the freshly powdercoated frame, after cleaning and polishing the engine for several nights. The aluminum isn’t perfect yet, but I am tired of trying to make it perfect, especially after seeing the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo version with all its imperfections. Here is where it stands at the moment:

And here are some parts and the carbs all cleaned up and ready to be installed. Soon I will have a rolling chassy.
